The Xverse wallet extension for Chrome
Xverse is a self-custodial Bitcoin wallet that runs in your browser. Add it once and you can hold and move Bitcoin, Ordinals, Runes and Stacks assets without a separate app open.
What is the Xverse wallet extension?
It's the Xverse wallet running in your browser instead of on your phone: self-custodial, so your keys stay on your machine and every transaction waits for you to approve it. Same wallet, same recovery phrase, one click away while you work in a tab.
- desktop_windows
Runs in Chrome, Brave and Edge as a browser extension.
- sync_alt
The same wallet as the Xverse app — import your existing recovery phrase, or create a new one.
- no_accounts
No account, no email address and no identity check to open the wallet.
How to add the Xverse extension to Chrome
Five steps and a couple of minutes, with no account to create. Have Chrome, Brave or Edge open, and something to write your recovery phrase on — paper, not a screenshot.
Open the Chrome Web Store listing
Search "Xverse" in the Chrome Web Store and check you're on the official listing, or follow the direct link from this guide.
Select "Add to Chrome"
Chrome shows the permissions the extension is asking for. Read them, then confirm — it installs in a few seconds.
Pin Xverse to your toolbar
Click the puzzle-piece icon in Chrome's toolbar and pin Xverse. Pinning keeps the wallet one click away, and makes it obvious which wallet a site is talking to.
Create a new wallet, or import the one you have
Choose "Create new wallet" if you're new to holding your own Bitcoin, or import with a recovery phrase if you already have a wallet elsewhere.
Set a password and write down your recovery phrase
Your password unlocks the wallet on this computer. The recovery phrase restores it anywhere — write it down, keep it offline, and never type it into a website or send it to anyone.
What you can do with the Xverse extension
It's a full Bitcoin wallet in a browser tab, not just a way to sign into websites. Everything below is one click away once it's installed.
Bitcoin, held in your browser
Send and receive BTC, and watch transactions confirm — with the keys staying on your device.
Ordinals, Runes and BRC-20
View, mint and transfer Bitcoin collectibles and tokens in the same wallet that holds your BTC.
Swap and bridge
Move between Bitcoin and the assets on its layers without routing everything through an exchange.
Connect to Bitcoin apps
Sign into Ordinals marketplaces and Bitcoin apps with your wallet, approving each request before anything moves.
Buy BTC inside the wallet
Fund the wallet through Xverse's on-ramp partners, instead of moving coins in from an exchange.
Your whole portfolio on one screen
Balances, tokens and collectibles across every supported network, without opening three explorers.
Is it safe to keep Bitcoin in a browser extension?
There's no custodian and nothing to log into. The wallet holds your keys on your device, and Xverse can't move your funds, freeze your wallet or lock you out. The trade-off is that your recovery phrase becomes the most valuable thing you own — anyone holding those words can take everything.
- verified_user
Open source and independently audited, so the code holding your keys can be checked.
- key
Connect a Ledger or Keystone and sign every transaction on the hardware, with your keys never touching the browser.
- lock
Your password unlocks this device only. The recovery phrase is what restores the wallet anywhere, so keep it offline.
Will it hold the assets you already own?
The extension covers Bitcoin and the layers built on top of it. If you already hold any of these, import your existing wallet rather than starting again.
Bitcoin
BTC on the base chain, plus Ordinals inscriptions, Runes and BRC-20 tokens.
Stacks
STX, Stacks NFTs, USDCx stablecoins and the Bitcoin apps built on Stacks.
Starknet
STRK and USDC on Starknet, with swaps and bridges between layers.
Spark
BTC, BTKN tokens and USDB stablecoins on Spark, with fast, low-fee transfers.
Xverse wallet extension: common questions
If you're stuck part-way through an install rather than still deciding, the troubleshooting page covers the fixes that come up most often.
Yes. There's nothing to pay to download or use the wallet, and no subscription. You pay standard Bitcoin network fees when you move funds onchain, and those go to the network rather than to Xverse.
No. The wallet doesn't ask for identity documents or even an email address. Services you reach through it, such as the on-ramp providers that let you buy Bitcoin with a card, may have their own requirements.
It installs from the Chrome Web Store, so it runs in Chrome, Brave and other Chromium browsers. Safari and Firefox don't run this extension at all.
No. The wallet is self-custodial, so there's no account to freeze and no one holding a copy of your keys. The same cuts the other way: nobody can reverse a transaction for you, so it's worth checking an address before you send to it.
Whoever holds the phrase controls the wallet, so there's no reset link and no support desk that can restore it. Write it down when you set up and keep it somewhere offline. If you still have access, you can back it up again from the wallet settings.
Yes. Both are the Xverse wallet, so importing the same recovery phrase gives you the same accounts on desktop and on your phone. Anything you do in one shows up in the other.
Add the Xverse extension to your browser
Install it from the Chrome Web Store and you're ready to fund the wallet. Your keys stay on your machine, and the only cost is the Bitcoin network fee when you move funds.
